Floor plan

The graphical floor plan depicts your rooms and tables to scale. It helps you plan the layout and, during live service, shows at a glance which table is free, reserved or occupied. The floor plan is optional — you can use VidiReserve without it.

Setting up the floor plan

Open My Restaurant → Floor Plan. The overview shows your sections as tiles on a grid. Via drag & drop you arrange the rooms the way they actually relate to each other; positions are saved automatically. Without a mouse — on a tablet or with the keyboard — use the arrow buttons ◀ ▲ ▼ ▶ at the bottom of each room card: every tap moves the room one cell further, swapping it with its neighbour or moving it into a free cell. At the edge of the grid the respective arrow is disabled.

1. Drag the rooms into the desired arrangement on the grid or move them with the arrow buttons.
2. Use "Editor" (or the edit icon on a room) to place the individual tables inside a room — there you drag tables and fixed elements such as wall, bar or counter into place.
3. Store the room size in metres so the depiction is accurate.

Nothing gets lost in the editor either: about one and a half seconds after your last change VidiReserve saves the layout automatically ("Auto-saved" on the save button). The Save button stays available for an immediate save. If a save fails, the message appears right inside the editor and your changes stay pending — the next attempt runs on your next move or via the button.

Editing on a tablet

You operate the editor with your finger just as with a mouse. The work area is the room at its stored size; on opening it is fitted to the screen — also after you rotate the device, as long as you have not zoomed yourself.

• Tap selects a table or an element. A tap on the empty area clears the selection.
• Drag moves. A small movement still counts as a tap and moves nothing — so a tap never nudges a table out of place.
• Double-tap opens the table for editing; the second way is the pencil handle on the selected table.
• Tap the palette to add the element in the middle of the visible area; from there you drag it into place. A new table also appears in the middle. With a mouse you can still drag elements straight out of the palette.
• Handles sit outside the corners of the selected item so your finger does not cover it: bottom right for the size, plus duplicate, delete and — on tables — the pencil for editing. They keep the same size at every zoom level.
• Rotate (button in the toolbar, in 45-degree steps) is refused if the rotated outline no longer fits into the room; the info line then says "Rotated, this does not fit into the room".
• Circle, not ellipse: on round tables width and height stay equal when you resize, and switching to round drops any rotation.
• Zoom with the buttons zoom out, fit and zoom in; fit brings the whole room back into view. One finger on the empty area pans the view.

Via Full screen the editor, too, hides the sidebar and the admin links. You arrange the rooms of the overview on a tablet with the arrow buttons on each room card (see above).

Live view

The Floor Plan Live view (its own item in the sidebar) shows occupancy in real time for a selectable date and time. At the top you see free and occupied tables, the guest count and occupancy as a percentage. The table colours distinguish free, "occupied soon", confirmed, pending, group booking and blocked. Clicking an occupied table opens the reservation for editing; clicking a free table creates a walk-in.

Overview or live — which when?

Use the overview/editor to set up: arrange rooms and place tables. Use Floor Plan Live in day-to-day operations: watch occupancy, take walk-ins and edit reservations right at the table. Both views draw on the same sections and tables.
